I started this back in Week 3 and the biggest reason for this article is to have fantasy managers pick up players before they go off. Now, I am not saying all the players I name will go off, but it is a simple stash and cash for a few guys that have the opportunity to. Most teams have the last bench spot they can afford to let go of, so why not take a flyer on a guy who could be a hot waiver add the following week. So far, I have hit on at least 1 player in each of the last 3 weeks. Trying to make it 4 in a row!
First let’s look at the players that were suggested last week to pick up. The biggest player that hit was Kadarius Toney, who ended up being a hot waiver add in Week 6:
Kadarius Toney: Week 5 Results – 13 Targets, 10 Receptions, 189 Rec Yards (24.60 Fantasy Points)
Elijah Moore: Week 5 Results – 2 Targets, 0 Receptions (0.00 Fantasy Points)
Darnell Mooney: Week 5 Results – 5 Targets, 3 Receptions, 35 Yards (5.00 Fantasy Points)
Michael Gallup: Week 5 Results – DNP. This was more of a stash him for when he comes off IR
Now let’s get to the other players out there that could have a big week and you should grab before it is too late. Now I am not saying these guys will for sure break out this week and if you pick them up to keep at the end of the bench and they don’t do anything, just drop them at the end of the day.
Rashod Bateman – 27% Owned
Bateman has come off the IR and he will be playing this Sunday. I would not start him this week since it is his first game ever in the NFL, but if he goes out there and shows us something, he will be a big waiver add next week. Sammy Watkins is hurt and will miss the game Sunday, so he has the opportunity to fill right in to that role. We need to remember that he was the 4th best WR going in to the NFL draft (behind Chase, D Smith, & Waddle). Everyone was off him when he went to the Ravens because they do not pass a lot. Well, we have seen the Ravens pass a bunch this season and with little to no run game, that should continue.
Amon-Ra St. Brown – 23% Owned
St. Brown was on our waiver article this past week, but I am putting him on here because he is still only 23% owned. Cephus is out for the season and with no other real pass catcher there besides Hockenson, St. Brown has the opportunity to be the number 1 WR in Detroit. He has at least 10 points in each of the last 2 games and if that can be his floor, that is a win. He could have a bigger week now with more opportunity. Get him now while he is still available in 77% of leagues because he will never be this cheap.
Alex Collins – 47% Owned
Now Collins was on the edge on if I should use him this week or not, but he is still just under 50% owned. He has 25 carries in the last 2 weeks and with Chris Carson now on the IR, this is Collins’ backfield for at least the next 3 weeks. You can pick him up and play him this week if you need to. Let’s not forget that in Week 7, we have 6 teams on bye. Many fantasy teams will need to fill some voids and Collins is the perfect player to help you with that. Also, with Geno Smith under center now, the team should look to run the ball even more.
Those are the three biggest players to pick up and stash heading in to Week 6, but we need to remember that 4 teams are on bye this week. Those teams are the Falcons, Saints, Jets & 49ers. Look at the transactions in your league because some players on these teams may have been dropped due to the fact that they are on bye. For the Falcons, I do not think managers cut any relevant fantasy players on that team, but the other teams have a few guys that may have been dropped. The biggest name is Eli Mitchell. He did not do much last week, but we can see that San Fran views him as the lead back well over Trey Sermon and Jeff Wilson is not coming back until late November. If he was dropped, pick him up now because he will be a fine play in Week 7 on.
Other players to note are Marquez Callaway, Michael Carter, and Brandon Aiyuk. All three may not be startable players really, but with bye week hell in Week 7, they are solid options to help you fill your roster.
